Instructions for Examinations outside of the US

One day of training is defined as one day regardless of the number of times trained in that single day. The years in grade are counted from the date of registration of the last rank, not the test date. It is the responsibility of the Dojo-cho to keep track of training days for their students.

New dojos to the CAA must wait at least a year before processing any applications.

Shodan: $250 200 days, more than 1 year since ikkyu, 15 years old minimum
Nidan: $275 360 days and more than two years since shodan
Sandan: $325 540 days and more than three years since nidan
Yondan: $375 800 days and more than four years since sandan
Godan: $850 1000 days and more than five years since yondan
Rokudan: $950 1200 days and and more than six years since godan
Nanadan: TBD 2000 days and more than twelve years since rokudan
Hachidan TBD TBD and more than 15 years since nanadan

In addition to the above, your Division Head may require an additional payment. Please check with him/her on or before your test date.

Shihan: $200 By recommendation of your Division Head only

Fees of $35 for the following items:
Replacement Yudansha books and Aikikai membership cards
Replacement Yudansha certificate.

Shodan applicants receive a yudansha book and card with their certificate for shodan, please do not include an additional $35.00 for a new book.

Processing deadlines are:
March 7th
June 7th
September 7th
October 7th - Recommendation Ranks only. Announced at Kagami Biraki following year
December 7th

Please note: Hombu is currently taking about 3 months to process and send books and certificates back to us, so please be patient.
